Kalbe Nutritionals at Bandung

Bandung, 19th February 2009. Kalbe Nutritionals bring down 100 of their employees to volunteer at Neglasari village, subdistrict Banjaran, in South Bandung. They build and renovate five houses for five families.

After volunteering a whole day long, KALBE team gather for a dinner at the Atmosphere Resort Café, which located in the heart of Bandung. After the dinner, some insights from volunteer activities are being discussed.

Kalbe team identifies some lesson learned from their activities. Not only teamwork and helping each other, getting the right instruction and understands the instruction are perceived as some important insights among other things. “As the team leader, I forgot to give instructions to my team (Bending wire team) because I was too occupied with what I am doing,” said Rini. “A Standard Operation Procedure (SOP) is required so people will not work randomly,” add Parto, member of Kalbe team.

Good planning is necessary also to reach the goal of building the house. Sometimes, the field condition does not inline with the plan and objectivity of the building process. “It will need adjustment in any process that we do,” said Dedi about the importance of a planning. Togetherness and teamwork is significantly needed to reach the goal.

Building a house seems easy to do and easy to learn, but it is hard to do and heavy. “It seems so easy until 15 minutes after it, I feel dizzy,” said Rian about his work as volunteer. Rajab, admits that he often gets angry when a staff ask him to wait for seven days for their work, “By doing their work, try to be like them and think positive, I perfectly understand and can feel what they are doing,” he said. Finally all members agree that nothing is impossible as long you have the spirit and desire.
