Senior U.S. Cultural Affairs Official Visits Habitat Yogyakarta Project

Yogyakarta, 4th July 2008: U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for Educational and Cultural Affairs, Goli Ameri visited Bantul, Yogyakarta to see Habitat for Humanity Indonesia project that GE has been funded. Following the Award for Corporate Excellence from the US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice to GE for active involvement in disaster reconstruction in Indonesia last year, the trip is to see how Habitat for Humanity Indonesia and GE have been cooperating to help the 2006 earthquake victims construct new homes. During her half-day trip, she visited fourHabitat home partners.

Ms. Ameri’s activities in Indonesia included a meeting with Indonesian educators, cultural experts, and alumni from U.S.-Indonesian exchange programs. Ms. Ameri heads the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, which fosters mutual understanding between the people of the United States and the people of other countries around the world.
