Bouquet from Habitat partner on Indonesia tsunami response
UK humanitarian agency Christian Aid, has commended Habitat for Humanity, its partner in tsunami reconstruction in Indonesia, for staying focused on its specialization in housing and for its clear-cut targeting strategy in selecting beneficiaries. Christian Aid singled out community consultation and cooperation as a key component of Habitat’s family selection process. “Regardless of the populist lobbying and advocacy issues playing out on the ground, HFH remained disciplined in managing its program and it did not waste effort on causes du jour. It interpreted the concept of 'Build Back Better' solely in quality housing construction terms and this position is clearly understood and valued by the beneficiaries interviewed and BRR,”. Christian Aid said in its external evaluation report. Badan Rekonstruksi dan Rehabilitasi, or BRR, is the central agency overseeing the rehabilitation and reconstruction process in Indonesia.
