Saving money is important, but people usually overlook with its practice.  The application of saving habit had initiated Surabaya Affiliate to develop easy way to apply this habit to Habitat families. When the families do not have a place to save and tendencies of spending all their money into food and snacks are raised, saving money for having a house become major problem. Surabaya Affiliate initiated a program to Habitat families to save and receive a “House Money Box” (a money box that made of wood, using used materials after the reconstructions and shaped like a house). Habitat staffs like Committee Organizer or Construction Supervisor coordinated each family to set aside their income and keep it in “House Money Box”.

This program, which initiated from January 2007 bring a lot of improvement especially for the home partners who had their repayment amount overdue until one year. By saving their money at “House Money Box”, the families can save until Fifty Thousand Rupiah for each month. Mr. Pamuji, one of Habitat families who work as a motorcycle taxi driver had benefited from this program, “I will never think to live in a decent house, because my salary would never be enough to have a house and join the Save and Build Program. But after Habitat had convinced me about house money box, I am optimist to join the program and try to save my money by cutting on buying the cigarettes” said him.

“House Money Box” the program that made for every habitat families to remind the importance of saving money	“House Money Box” that made of wood, which utilizes used material. Because of the money box, Habitat families can save at least 50.000 Rupiah / month.
